Conor Dougherty for the Wall Street Journal recently wrote an article, College Grads Expand Lead in Job Security, about the widening gap of opportunities between college graduates and workforce members with merely a high school diploma. We’ve all been told there is a dire need to attend college for years. Our high school advisors, teachers and parents lectured us on the importance of a college degree in order to be successful in life. But what we didn’t realize is that the recession has exacerbated the divide and that, by attending college, we are ensuring more job security in the long run.

As college graduates, we are finding work faster (approximately 9 weeks faster than high school grads). It’s great that our job is more secure, but we still need to get our first job. As more students enroll in colleges across the world, finding a job is becoming even more competitive. We need to do all we can to stand out before, during and after college. Our resumes need to be outstanding. With graduation quickly approaching, I only hope that I’ve done my due diligence during my undergraduate career.
One thing that would be interesting - the unemployment rate for college grads between the ages of 22-25.
