Balancing Academics and College Social Life

By Kenny Gehlhaus, Campus Representative, Pennsylvania State University

As my second to last college semester comes to an end I cannot help but think back to the last 3 and a half years I spent at Penn State. The friendships I have made, the classes I have taken, and the organizations I have been a part of have prepared me a great deal for life post-graduation. Sometimes students can stray from their studies, or not have a social life. Andy Masters, a nationally recognized author/speaker on Human Resources has published an article on just how to manage the different worlds in college that most students live in.

Your time in college goes by way to fast to not be involved. Academics are extremely important, but being a part of a club and being active may be even more important. Gaining experience through clubs can ultimately lead to internships, which we all know is the key to finding a full-time job nowadays. Nevertheless, students can sometimes get caught up in being overly active and never finding time for themselves. Having a social life and enjoying your college years is by far the most important. The freedom you have in college is unparalleled. These four years are unlike anything you will experience. However, students must make sure to find that median where good grades, involvement, and fun all intersect. In my time in college I have found this happy median and I only hope all college students can do the same.
